Survived my first serious medical in the air...
We almost diverted to the USA, but managed to make it back to Toronto in record time where medical personnel was waiting for us. Now that I have one medical under my belt, I feel so much better prepared to handle any others that come my way. The key is communication! So thankful my training kicked in and I had a great crew yesterday!

I am the new size 36 vest model for my company!
I have to wear the new style of vest when I am working (during service) and make observations regarding what people say about it, how it looks/feels, etc. I’ll look odd being one of the few males wearing the new style of vests, but I am excited to see what comments I receive from passengers and other flight attendants! Also, I like it way more than the sweater vest they make us wear now!

Back on Twitter! Follow me @cunningtonmatt
Approximately two years ago I deleted my personal account on Twitter because I was too addicted to the constant status updates. Recently, I have been doing some Tweeting for other people, but I’ve finally decided to rejoin the Twitter world myself (with a different handle as my old one was lost when when I deactivated my past account). I’ll be Tweeting about my life as a flight...

Working my first red eye flight tonight...
I hope I don’t fall asleep! My flight doesn’t leave Toronto until almost midnight and I don’t return until noon tomorrow. It’ll be the longest flight I’ve done to date - going to Grenada! I am excited for the challenge (and for all of the passengers to sleep so I don’t have to do as much work)!

Some of the Many Advantages of Being a Flight...
Discounts on hotels and air travel; Free magazines when people leave them behind on the airplane (I’ve only had three flights and have already developed quite the collection); Traveling to new places, even if all you see is the airport; Bypassing airport security and custom lineups; and, Having a great crew who you can laugh with and have a good time with while trapped in a confined...

Georgetown teacher’s sudden transfer stuns school →
This is a link to a Toronto Star article about the quick transfer of my high school music teacher from job and school. Ms. Wallace was the best teacher I ever had throughout all of my education. Her dedication and passion for music was reason to go to school and band practice every day. Further, the music program at GDHS shaped me into the person I am today. I was even a part of the jazz band that...

Best first day of a new job ever!!!
Some highlights from my first day flying as a flight attendant today: Having an absolutely amazing crew (even with three new flight attendants); Having my supervisor watch me brief people at the over wing exits and telling me I did a great job; Making a generous tip on my first alcohol sale of the day; Having a passenger ask for the email address of our boss so she can write a positive letter...

Flight Bidding: A Game of Strategy
As a flight attendant, I get to bid for the flights that I want. I am currently bidding for my January schedule. There are approximately 400 pairings (all flights grouped together ranging anywhere from a few hours to multiple days with layovers) making the process incredibly difficult to decide what flights I would like to work. You can also bid for days off, times of flights you want, duration of...

I got my schedule AND my uniform AND my suitcases...
Another week of training to go and then I get to fly! My first flight (as of right now… our schedules constantly change) is to Varadero Cuba! I’m also going to other fun places this month such as the Dominican Republic and Jamaica!

Two hours later and I've redone our Christmas tree...
Next year I think I might just do it all myself and not trust my family to decorate it when I’m out of the house…

“If you’re twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you...”
– Anthony Bourdain (via visceralconnection) This is such an awesome quote! I am twenty-two. I am hungry to learn. I am hungry to be better. I am going to travel. And that is why I’m becoming a flight attendant! Only young once, right?

My FAM is going to be one of my main priorities...
And I’m not talking about my family… I’m talking about my Flight Attendant Manual. I have hundreds of pages to memorize and learn - everything from roles and responsibilities of crew members to high-jacking and terrorist attacks. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m up for it! With exams, drills and/or quizzes practically every day, it’s imperative that I know...

WatchWatch
theseer: Within Ring Rd. (by Alex Tan) This video is all over my Facebook feeds and I think it is incredible! It really captures beauty throughout the Waterloo campus and is a much needed reminder of its attractiveness compared to the goose poop covered ground, clouded skies, and outdated architecture I often think of when I think of the Waterloo campus.

Dreaming of Kimchi
Think of kimchi all day. Come home and turn on Food Network and they’re making kimchi. Wishing I had the ingredients in the house to make it. Craving kimchi even more despite just finishing eating my dinner. Koren BBQ anyone?
